ABOUT  US

by  Jeanette Campbell
Cheltary Kennels was first established in 1969 by my mother, Dorothy Batchelor, with Shetland Sheepdogs and Collies.    The Shelties were  mum's first love and she soon extended her showing interest into breeding with foundation stock from Onrod, Nigma, Hortonpark and Berinvale lines.   Her greatest success was Ch Cheltary Petina who gained her title in 6 months finishing off in great style by defeating Ch Jentam Yendys Yeldy and Ch Jentam Highland Dream (two top winning Shelties of their time).

The family moved from the farm into town and for several years we stopped showing and breeding.  In 1994 we acquired two blue merle Collie Rough's, litter brothers
Mavmon Beaumonde (Jasper) who lived with mum and Mavmon Just Dandy (Chip) who lived with me.   Their breeder, Juliet O'Meara of Mavmon Collies offered to take us to a show, it didn't take much convincing and once there both of us were bitten by the showbug again.   Mum and I formed a partnership and Cheltary Kennels awoke from it's slumber accompanying Juliet  to shows with our Collies.

In 1997 we started with Shelties again with a
Lynsline tri bitch Lynsline Black Opal (Jemma).  We are hoping that the litter we have planned with Jemma in 2003 will again have us in the Sheltie ring.   Mum concentrates on the Shelties and her Papillon whilst I have the Collies.

The Collies are our main focus here at Cheltary.  We have built up a sound foundation with bloodlines that boast
Mavmon, Dalwood, Hylinden, Glenallen & Rifflesea.
Our bitch line was established when Mavmon Collies used at stud our blue merle Collie Mavmon Just Dandy putting him to their tri bitch Dalwood Dusky Wyldfire. From that litter we obtained our tri bitch Mavmon Ebonite Merit (Jessie).   Mavmon Collies leased Jessie back and she was mated to their blue merle dog Aronbel High Fidelity.  From that litter we acquired a tri bitch Mavmon Ebonite Socialite (Kirby).   We then decided we would breed our first ever Collie litter and Kirby was mated to our sable & white dog Ch Glenallen Gay Wilscarlet (Ricky).   We had only ever bred Shetland Sheepdogs before so this was a new era for Cheltary Kennels.   The result was 7 beautiful sable & white babies from which we kept Cheltary Gabrielle and Cheltary Anastasia - two lovely outgoing girls of which we are very proud.

Thank you to Juliet O'Meara (Mavmon Collies) and to Dot Allen (Glenallen Collies) for our solid foundations which have given us the wonderful lines enabling us to look forward to what we are certain will be a bright future for Cheltary.

We hope you enjoy your visit and please contact us if you would like more information on any of our dogs.
